What is Decision:

The decision is the action or process of deciding something or of resolving a question against a particular point of the moment in any situation, it could be either rational or irrational. This is the process of clearing or overcoming any doubt.

At every step of life, we have to make a decision. Nevertheless, the importance of the decision is reflected in two areas, firstly, when we have more than one choice, and secondly, when our situation is very complicated.

If we try to know in detail how can we make decisions, we will understand how the best decision can be made.

We make decisions usually on the basis of our past experience, our values, our meta-program, and our physical and mental condition at the time we make the decision. Sometimes the decision comes out according to how we are taking the situation or perceiving any event in our mind. There are many people who decide to depend on others or are driven by circumstances. All of those individuals have very low self-confidence and self-image.

“It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.”

Tony Robbins

In some cases, we have to make an immediate decision.  In the event of a sudden accident or catastrophe, the importance of a proper decision is much greater and it may save many lives. In all these cases our presence of mind can find out the only way, otherwise, we will not be able to make any decision if we are stunned by fear. Many people prefer to keep themselves away from such moments but you must see that you do not have to regret it later for your decision.

We can tell whether a decision is right or wrong only by looking at its results. Your decision may not be right in the eyes of others. Thomas Alva Edison’s decision to invent the bulb was considered insane by many, and also Henry Ford’s decision to build the V-8 engine was dismissed as a fantasy. But all these extremely successful great people have proved that their decision was not wrong at all. They have proved that the critics were wrong.

As witnesses to such thousands of events, we have to believe that ‘no matter what decision you make, if you take responsibility for proving that the decision is right, it can only be counted as the right decision in the long run.’ Decision-making is not a difficult or time-consuming task but it is not easy to implement. There is not much lack of initiative in making decisions, whether in the individual or in any organization, but there is procrastination in implementing those decisions.

Types of decision making:

Decision-making methods can be of two types, one is an ethical decision and the other is a strategic decision.

Ethical decisions:

Decisions that give rise to indications of faith, responsibility, honesty, and caring are all moral or ethical decisions.  Various options are reconsidered for ethical decision-making. That is to say, the unethical alternatives are discarded and the best moral alternative is chosen. Ethical decisions reflect principles, ideals, and values.  For example, when you see a man in danger on the road and go to help him, your morals, your ideals are reflected here.  However, like many others, you can avoid the person in danger for fear of getting into trouble, or thinking of wasting time.

Strategic decisions:

These may also be called logical decisions. Strategic decisions are as important to success in personal life as they are to getting yourself out of the difficult moments of your life. Strategic decisions are based on mission and vision and personal or organizational goals. Right strategic decisions help to improve your health, wealth, and success, better your love & relationship bonding as well as life also.

Many times, in some situations or circumstances we may have many choices and we get confused to choose. In some cases, we make logical decisions, in many cases, we make emotional, irrational, confusing, or influencing decisions.

Why we make poor decisions and how to make them perfect and strong:

In many areas of life, we make bad decisions, or our decisions turn out to be bad. If we come to know why we make poor decisions, we will understand how we can make perfect and strong decisions.

1. Though we all think of ourselves as rational, this thinking of us is irrational because psychology proved that we are not actually rational and that is why we often make wrong decisions in life.

People who think of themselves as rationalists should first think that what they are deciding or trying to impose on others is only their point of view, their perception, that may not be the reality.

When you go to the store to buy clothes, you may have a thousand choices, you bought the shirt according to your choice of design and color but that shirt is again may be disliked by others!  So try to look at it in this way, learn to believe that ‘whatever decision you make at any given moment is your best choice for that moment.’ You will see that this belief will inspire you to make better decisions later on.

2. Most of the decisions we make are based on conjecture.  We decide to do it only if we determine the approximate result of any work.  The origins of these assumptions depend on past experience, beliefs, values, and meta-programs stored in our subconscious minds.  The worse your past experience, beliefs, and values, the worse your decision will be.

In preparation for making good decisions, we need to build and strengthen our beliefs and values.  We can’t change past experiences or past events in our life, but we can change the way we look at them and work with them to become better decision-makers.

3. Any decision made at that time if the mental state is not right or if the physical condition is bad can be wrong or bad.  When you are mentally disturbed, stressed and anxious, refrain from making any big decisions.  Similarly, even if the body is sick, do not make a hasty decision.

4. Our decision may not be so effective when we are in critical problems, but if someone else has a problem, we can make the decision for them. If your friend has a problem you can easily make a decision to solve it as an observer, but if you have the same problem in your life you will not find a way how to solve it because you are associated with it.

Become a good observer before making decisions about your life or anything else.  Put yourself in the position of an observer and watch carefully how the situation is going on, what is going on, how you can find the best solution, and which of the choices you have in front of you will be the best for you to choose, surely you will become a good decision-maker.

‘We make decisions to get a solution, there is no need to make a decision once we get a solution.’

5. Our mind wants to delay any task, it is no exception in making decisions.  There are positive intentions behind this delay so that we do not have to leave our comfort zone or we are not deprived of temporary happiness etc,. Delays make it difficult to make any decision because at this point the mind brings all the negative aspects and negative thoughts to us. That is why making any decision should not be delayed too much.

Always keep it clear to yourself what you want to achieve, that is, what the outcome will be, then it will never be too late to decide what to do or how to do it.

“Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.”

Tony Robbins

Make any decision firmly.  Life is yours, so that decision is yours, and that decision will prove to be right on the day you succeed. It is the best decision to stick to your decision.
